Review: Secura 1.8 Quart Stainless Steel Kettle

The Secura 1.8 quart electric kettle has a stainless steel construction. The exterior has a nice black finish while the interior is all high quality 18/10 stainless steel. The double wall construction makes the kettle cool to touch on the outside even when the water is boiling inside. A generous capacity of 1.8 quarts makes it suitable for small to large households.

Secura 1.8 quart review

The Secura 1.8 quart is a sleek and modern looking electric kettle with its shiny black finish. The kettle housing is made of stainless steel, which isn’t uncommon these days. However, the kettle has a double wall construction that prevents the exterior to become burning hot. You can hold your hands around the kettle while the water inside is boiling, without burning your hands. The kettle exterior gets warm, but never hot enough to burn you.

There are two reasons why I really like this feature. The first reason is that the water stay hot for longer. The water is actually hot enough for a second cup of tea (or coffee if you prefer). If the water has cooled down a bit too much for the second cup, the kettle will be incredible fast to bring it back to a rolling boil again.

The double walled construction also makes the kettle more efficient, saves energy and boils water quicker.

All stainless steel interior

Another selling point, at least for me, is the all seamless stainless steel interior. Yes, the interior is all of stainless steel, just as advertised. The kettle housing, the lid, the spout, and the rim are made of 100% stainless steel. The hot water are not exposed to any plastic parts, directly or indirectly. The Secura 1.8 quart kettle is therefore free from Bisphenol A (BPA).

The stainless steel used are 18/10, which is often used in high quality cutlery and cookware due to its rust resistance properties.

Capacity

The Secura electric kettle has a generous capacity of 1.8 quarts (1.7 liter/ 7 cups).

The maximum water level is marked inside the kettle, but unfortunately, there is no minimum level. The user manual states that the minimum level is 2 cups.

In use

The kettle housing sits on top of a swivel base that allows you to place the kettle from any direction. The base has the same style as the kettle housing with a shiny black finish.

To fill up the kettle is very easy and convenient, the kettle is cordless and the lid flips open with a push of a button. The lid opens slowly and smoothly, and gives a feeling of quality.

After the kettle is filled up, push the lid down until it snaps locked. Then simply place the kettle on top of the swivel base.

The ON/OFF switch has an indicator light to let you know the kettle is on. The kettle has a thermostatic control from the British company, Strix. This temperature control is supposedly more accurate. I have no idea if this is true or not, but the automatic shut-off function works. When the water has come to a rolling boil, the ON/OFF switch makes an audible “click”.

Boiling

The water is heated by a 1500 watt heating element, which is hidden below the stainless steel bottom. Boiling a kettle full ( 1.8 quart) takes from 6 to 8 minutes, while the minimum amount of 2 cups takes 2 minutes.

Cleaning

I think this is one of the easiest electric kettles to clean. The interior is all stainless steel with smooth surfaces. The opening is about 5 inches across and makes it easy to access with cleaning tools.

Conclusion

The Secura 1.8 quart kettle is a great product to a reasonable price. It is light and easy to handle, yet it is sturdy and oozes quality. The all stainless steel interior is a huge selling point, at least for me. The double wall construction with cool touch properties is a neat feature not many competitor have. I am actually struggling to find any negatives with this electric kettle. A great buy!
